Yonkers, NY ~ Yonkers, NY - The search for Yonkers' next great young singers is on as the annual singing competition, Yonkers Idol, kicks off on Saturday, April 6th at Roosevelt High School. The event, now in its sixteenth year, is organized by the Yonkers Department of Parks, Recreation & Conservation and the Untermyer Performing Arts Council.
Mayor Mike Spano expressed his excitement for the competition, stating that it is a way for the city to celebrate the incredible singing talent within its borders. He also mentioned that he is always amazed by the skills of the young singers and looks forward to attending the finale showcase.
Auditions are open to Yonkers residents between the ages of 15-19 for Yonkers Idol and 10-14 for Yonkers Junior Idol. Participants will be required to perform one verse and one chorus of a song. The winners will hold their titles for a year and receive a cash prize of $1000 courtesy of the Untermyer Performing Arts Council Teresa Fund. They will also have opportunities to perform at various events throughout the year hosted by the City of Yonkers.

The final round of competition will take place at Untermyer Gardens on June 15th at 6PM. Those who make it through to this round will be asked to audition with a different song.
Interested participants must register online at register.capturepoint.com/yonkers. Walk-ins are also welcome but only Yonkers residents are eligible to participate.
