~ New Rochelle, NY - Over the weekend, 200 volunteers came together to participate in the 8th annual New Rochelle Parks Clean-up Weekend. The event, organized by Volunteer New York! and the City of New Rochelle Parks and Recreation Department, aimed to engage community members in caring for and improving their local green spaces.
Residents from both New Rochelle and neighboring communities were invited to join in on the various projects that were planned for the weekend. These included tasks such as trash removal, trail maintenance, and beautification efforts. With a diverse range of activities available, volunteers were able to make a tangible impact in preparing the parks for the upcoming summer season.
In total, nearly 595 hours of service were completed across 13 parks during the weekend. This resulted in impressive accomplishments such as the removal of 93 bags of trash and 5 tires, painting of 44 benches, 8 picnic tables, and 1 fence, dispersing 1,000 native seed bombs, building 4 garden beds and spreading 3 mulch piles. Additionally, hundreds of yards of shoreline were cleaned and floating trash was removed.
