~ New Rochelle, NY - Over the weekend, 200 volunteers came together to participate in the 8th annual New Rochelle Parks Clean-up Weekend. The event, organized by Volunteer New York! and the City of New Rochelle Parks and Recreation Department, aimed to engage community members in caring for and improving their local green spaces.
Residents from both New Rochelle and neighboring communities were invited to take part in a variety of projects, including trash removal, trail maintenance, and beautification tasks. These efforts made a tangible impact in preparing the parks for the upcoming summer season.
In total, volunteers completed nearly 595 hours of service across 13 parks. This resulted in the removal of 93 bags of trash and 5 tires, as well as painting 44 benches, 8 picnic tables, and 1 fence. Additionally, over 1,000 native seed bombs were dispersed and 4 garden beds were built while hundreds of yards of shoreline were cleaned and floating trash was removed.

One notable project that volunteers took on was painting over graffiti at Maplewood Park on Sunday. This not only improved the appearance of the park but also helped to discourage further vandalism.
