NEW YORK - Nyenta -- Written by a 15-year-old elite athlete and his father, Mental Toughness For Young Athletes® draws on personal interviews with NBA, NFL, and EuroLeague stars, to help young competitors build in-game confidence and grit.
Troy Horne and his son Moses Horne, co-hosts of the Hoopchalk Basketball Podcast, have built a bestselling three-book series aimed at solving one of youth sports' most common struggles: young athletes who perform well in practice but freeze up once "the lights come on." The flagship title, Mental Toughness for Young Athletes®: Eight Proven 5-Minute Mindset Exercises for Kids and Teens Who Play Competitive Sports, has sold more than 272,000 copies and continues to resonate with young athletes, parents, and coaches nationwide.
What sets the series apart is perspective: Moses Horne, an elite teen athlete, co-wrote the book himself, making it one of the only mental toughness resources written from a young competitor's point of view rather than filtered entirely through an adult lens.

Mental Toughness for Young Athletes® (Available in Spanish, and French) lays the foundation, delivering eight quick, five-minute mindset exercises designed for athletes ages 8 and up. The book grew out of the Hornes' own search for resources that spoke directly to kids in competitive sports, a gap they found in most mental-performance books written primarily for adults.
To fill that gap, the father-son team turned to their podcast platform to interview elite athletes and coaches, including Chauncey Billups, Tywanna Smith, Keiko Yoshimine, Earl Boykins, Jason Richardson, and Kobe Bryant. The exercises in the book distill lessons from those conversations into practical tools any young athlete can use before, during, and after competition.
Mental Toughness for Young Athletes® (Parent's Guide) reframes the same eight exercises for a parent audience, giving moms and dads a roadmap for supporting their child through the mental side of competitive sports, including guidance drawn from Troy Horne's own experience navigating self-doubt as a sports parent.
Mental Toughness for Young Athletes®: Volume 2 — Grit continues Moses and Troy's story into the next stage of competition. Building on the first book's foundation, this volume tackles grit, the trait the authors credit with sustaining long-term mental toughness and follows Moses' own path to drawing interest from more than a dozen Division I programs.
