~ New Rochelle, NY- The Huguenot & New Rochelle Historical Association (HNRHA) has announced an exciting event to celebrate the 200th anniversary of General Lafayette's visit to New Rochelle in 1824. The "living history extravaganza" will take place on Sunday, August 18th from 11am-3pm at Ruby Dee Park in front of the New Rochelle Public Library.
The event, organized in cooperation with the City of New Rochelle as sponsor, the HNRHA and New Rochelle Public Library as co-hosts, and other community partners, promises to be a colorful and entertaining day for all. Mayor Yadira Ramos-Herbert and other dignitaries will be present to greet visitors and issue a proclamation.
The main program and ceremonies will begin at noon with the arrival of Lafayette, his descendants, and members of the American Friends of Lafayette. Family-oriented activities will be offered throughout the day at Ruby Dee Park, all free of charge and open to the public rain or shine. These include reenactors, a 19-gun salute, blacksmith demonstrations, children's toys and music, free arts and crafts, a large petting zoo and more.
