About the Icla da Silva Foundation
The Icla da Silva Foundation was established in 1992 in memory of Icla da Silva, a 13-year-old girl from Brazil diagnosed with leukemia. Her family traveled to New York City in search of a cure.
After two years of treatment, Icla passed away; her matching bone marrow donor was never found.
Before her death, Icla left a note to her mother, assuring her that she was fine and asking her family to help the friends she made during treatment at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
Twelve months later, the Icla da Silva Foundation was founded to help patients in need of a bone marrow transplant. Today, the foundation's mission is to save the lives of patients whose only cure is a bone marrow transplant by providing financial, emotional, and logistical support to remove barriers to treatment.
