A July 2002 Boeing Supplier Bulletin mandating all suppliers adopt AS9100 certification through ANSI–ANAB or lose business.
The notifications April & July 2002 stated by Boeing giving up onsite supplier audits and if need be or need arises they would send auditors to facilities. Suppliers would send in certifications and parts and as Boeing stated this would reduce redundant inspections.
Worse still, Boeing's Vice President Elizabeth Lund admitted publicly in 2024 that Boeing was only now planning to pursue AS9100 certification—after 22 years of enforcing it on others as the OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer).
Boeing is "willing and prepared" to obtain AS9100 certification, an internationally recognized aerospace standard for quality that the plane maker requires for its suppliers, she said.
