City Council Candidates Unite Behind "Common Sense Contract with NYC"
Seven-point pledge defends the freedom to live, work, and thrive in NYC

New York, NY, October 7, 2025 - In a bold move to restore confidence in government and offer voters a clear and unified alternative, a coalition of 2025 New York City Council candidates have signed onto the Common Sense Contract with NYC, a seven-point pledge aimed at defending the freedom to live, work, and thrive in New York.

Spearheaded by the nonpartisan civic action organization Project Civica, the initiative brings together candidates across boroughs who are united around restoring safety, opportunity, and accountability to city government.

"New Yorkers are tired of empty promises and ideological extremes. They want real, achievable solutions," said Steven Gillan, Co-Founder and Director of Political Affairs at Project Civica. "The Common Sense Contract with NYC is a public commitment that lets voters know exactly where their candidates stand on the issues that matter most to them."

The Seven Pledges in the Contract Are:
  1. Illegal Immigration: Repeal NYC's sanctuary city status and restore public resources like schools, hospitals, and housing for residents first.
  2. Crime and Law & Order: Repeal pro-criminal laws, add 7,000 police officers, and hold DAs accountable so every neighborhood feels safe.
  3. Economic Freedom: Cut unnecessary regulations to help small businesses, street vendors, and property owners grow jobs and prosperity.
  4. Education Choice: Expand access to charter and private schools and offer full school vouchers for all families.
  5. Parental Rights: Protect due process and transparency in all education and child welfare decisions affecting families.
  6. Local Control: Block "City of Yes" and similar top-down zoning changes that silence communities and destabilize neighborhoods.
  7. Fiscal Accountability: End wasteful spending and expose insider deals to ensure every tax dollar serves the public.
