~ Rochester, NY - Mayor Malik D. Evans, along with President & CEO of Baldwin Richardson Foods, Erin Tolefree, and Rochester Police Department Deputy Chief Keith Stith, gathered today to announce the city's first ever Frederick Douglass HBCU Football Classic Weekend of Hope.
Mayor Evans expressed his excitement for the event, stating that it is not just about football but also about investing in the youth, celebrating the rich culture of HBCUs, and strengthening the relationship between the community and law enforcement. He looks forward to seeing the city come together for a weekend filled with fun, unity, and inspiration.
The football game will take place on Saturday, September 21st at 1pm at the Rochester Community Sports Complex. The Central State University Marauders from Ohio will face off against the Albany State Rams from Georgia. The game is just one part of a full-day experience that will begin at 9am with a tailgate event at the stadium. The ticket price includes access to all game day festivities.

Following the game, there will be a "5th quarter" Battle of the Bands featuring Central State's Invincible Marching Marauders and Albany State's Marching Rams Show Band.
The Weekend of Hope has received support from various sponsors, with Baldwin Richardson Foods as the title sponsor. The event will officially be known as "Baldwin Richardson Foods Presents the Frederick Douglass HBCU Classic Weekend of Hope."
Erin Tolefree, President & CEO of Baldwin Richardson Foods, shared their dedication to creating impact and removing barriers through this sponsorship. As an HBCU alumna herself, she is thrilled to connect Rochester students with unique opportunities provided by HBCUs.
The entire Weekend of Hope will take place from Thursday, September 19th through Sunday, September 22nd. City of Rochester high school students will have multiple invitation-only opportunities to engage with HBCU alumni, athletic staff, players, and marching bands. There will also be public events for the entire community to join in on the celebration.
Tickets for game day are currently available for $25 each. Public events such as the Alumni Mixer at Innovative Field and Taste of Rochester Classic Crawl highlighting Black businesses do not require paid tickets. For more information, visit the event's website or click the buttons below.
