YONKERS, NY ~ Yonkers Traffic Engineering Department has announced that the city will be making changes to Lawrence Street in order to improve traffic conditions for the upcoming opening of the Justice Sonia Sotomayor Community School. The one-way westbound street, located between McLean Avenue and Van Cortlandt Park Avenue, will be converted starting on August 22.
According to the Yonkers Traffic Engineering Division, modifications will be made to the traffic control signage to accommodate the one-way conversion. This means that residents and visitors to Lawrence Street will now have to enter from McLean Avenue and exit onto Van Cortlandt Park Avenue. Additionally, parking will only be permitted on the south side of the street, while it will be prohibited on the north side (school side) between 7AM and 4PM on school days.

These changes are being implemented as a result of an environmental impact study that was conducted during the planning and construction of the new Yonkers Public School. The conversion to a one-way street will allow for easier drop-off and pick-up of students by school buses in front of the school on Lawrence Street.
For any further information or questions regarding these changes, residents can contact the Mayor's Helpline at 914-377-HELP (4357). The City of Yonkers is committed to improving traffic conditions and ensuring a safe environment for students at the new Justice Sonia Sotomayor Community School.
