Tim Smith of American & Import Auto Repair met with shop owners nationwide to talk AI, new vehicle tech, and customer care
JOHNSON CITY, N.Y. - Nyenta -- Tim Smith, owner of American & Import Auto Repair in Johnson City, TN, recently traveled to Nashville for a national conference bringing together auto repair shop owners from across the country.
The event focused on how shops can better serve their customers in a fast-changing industry. Sessions covered how AI tools are starting to show up in the repair business, how to work on the newest vehicle technology, and ways shops can build more trust with the people who walk through their doors.
For Tim Smith, an ASE certified master technician with 30 years in the trade, the trip was a chance to compare notes with other shop owners and bring fresh ideas back to Johnson City.
"You can't stand still in this business," Smith said. "Cars change every year, and the way customers want to be treated changes too. I go to conferences like this so my shop stays sharp on both."

One area AAIAR is especially focused on is pre-purchase inspections. Before a customer buys a used car, American & Import Auto Repair can put it on the lift and check it over, so the buyer knows exactly what condition it's really in before they hand over their money.
