BROOKLYN, N.Y. - Nyenta -- KidSpirit, the award-winning online magazine by and for youth to explore life's big questions, launches its summer issue on the theme "Courage." Starting today, 11-to 17-year-olds around the world share writing, poetry, art, and video on an empowering and essential topic.
Each issue of KidSpirit revolves around a Big Question posed by the all-youth Editorial Board. This season, the editors ask, "Can we build courage, or does it just exist within?" In her response, a young editor digs deep into her personal journey to show us how trauma can lead to growth.
Other pieces released today include an article detailing a contributor's experience fleeing the Russian invasion of Ukraine, a story about a young journalist overcoming nerves in the face of a new challenge, a piece about standing up against bullying, a review of the book As Long as the Lemon Trees Grow, and a short story about a girl's journey with illness and resilience.
Throughout the season, KidSpirit will continue to publish writing, poetry, artwork, and video by youth on this empowering theme. In Features, writers will examine the role of courage in folklore and fairy tales, and an Awesome Moments piece will share a writer's experience at a climate protest. In a Global Youth Voices Feature article, two pairs of youth contributors will collaborate to share their partner's heroic journey. In Media, young authors will review more books and movies related to the issue's theme, including the book The Gilded Ones. The Fiction and Poetry departments will showcase more creative writing on the topic from lyrical young authors around the world.
