ARLINGTON, Va., March 7, 2024 ~ New York City, NY - On March 22, the highly anticipated animated short film "LUKi & The Lights" will make its public premiere at Cinema Village. Created by Sascha Groen and her husband Anjo Snijders, who was diagnosed with ALS in 2017, the film aims to help young audiences understand and cope with the complexities of this devastating disease.
ALS, or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, is a neurodegenerative disease that is always fatal and currently has no cure. Through the power of animation, "LUKi & The Lights" tells the story of LUKi, a charming robot who must navigate life after being diagnosed with ALS. The film's creators hope to use animation as a universal language to reach children from all cultures and help them understand the impact of ALS.
"We wanted to create a resource for parents to explain ALS to their children and show them that it's okay to talk about it," said Snijders. After his own diagnosis, he and his wife realized the need for tools to help children understand this terminal illness.
