YONKERS, NY ~ Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano and Interim Superintendent of Schools Dr. Luis Rodriguez have announced the launch of the 2024 Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Art and Video Contest. The contest, with this year's theme being "African Americans and the Arts," aims to highlight the significant role of art in preserving history, community memory, and empowerment within the African American community.
Mayor Spano expressed his belief in the power of art as he stated, "The arts are the soul of humanity, the voice of the oppressed, and the bridge of understanding." He also emphasized how Dr. King's teachings continue to inspire individuals to dream of a better world and act with courage and compassion. The Mayor is looking forward to seeing how students will interpret Dr. King's lasting message through their artwork.

Three winners will be selected - one from grades 1-4 for artwork, one from grades 5-8 for artwork, and one from grades 9-12 for a video submission.
