YONKERS, NY ~ On October 2, 2023, Mayor Mike Spano of Yonkers, New York, and the City of Yonkers Department of Public Works (DPW) announced a flood debris removal plan for residents affected by the historic storm that caused widespread flooding and damage in the city on September 29th.
The plan includes curbside pickup services from Tuesday, October 3rd until Friday, October 6th for residents to dispose of their flood-damaged items. Residents are advised to separate their flood debris from their regular garbage and recycling, and to also place them on the curb. This special collection will occur in the afternoon after the morning garbage collection. Appointments for curbside flood debris pick-up can be made by calling the Mayor's Help Line at 914-377-HELP (4357). Accepted items include white goods (appliances), organics, construction debris, etc.

Mayor Spano expressed his gratitude to County Executive Latimer for his leadership and collaboration in helping the residents of Yonkers cope with the aftermath of the devastating storm. The Fire Department, Office of Emergency Management, and other agencies have been assisting residents to pump out water from homes on an emergency basis. The Department of Public Works will continue to work to restore normal operations in the city.
