YONKERS, NY ~ Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano has issued a statement regarding the effects of ongoing Canadian wildfires on New York's air quality. The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and Health has declared an Air Quality Health Advisory for the New York City metro area and lower Hudson Valley until Thursday, June 8.

The extreme haze and unhealthy weather conditions have caused Yonkers Public Schools to cancel all outdoor activities and events. Mayor Spano is urging residents to stay indoors with windows closed, or if they must be outside, to wear a mask. Organizations holding outdoor activities are also encouraged to monitor the air quality before proceeding with further events over the next few days.
