~ Rochester, NY - Multiple water main breaks have caused major disruptions to traffic in the city on Thursday. According to reports, a portion of East Avenue has been closed off to traffic between North Union Street and Alexander Street due to a Holly water main break. The break has resulted in the closure of both directions of the road.

Fortunately, drinking water has not been affected by the break. However, motorists are advised to find alternate routes as repairs are expected to take six to eight hours. It is expected that Friday morning traffic will not be impacted by the repairs.

The affected pipe on East Avenue dates back to 1891, highlighting the need for infrastructure updates in the city. In addition, another Holly water main break has caused the closure of South Clinton Avenue between Woodbury Boulevard and Court Street downtown.

Similar to the East Avenue break, drinking water is not affected and repairs are expected to take six to eight hours. Motorists are advised to find alternate routes until the road is reopened. Friday morning traffic is not expected to be impacted by this break either.

These incidents serve as a reminder for city officials and residents alike about the importance of maintaining and updating aging infrastructure in order to prevent such disruptions in the future.
