BUFFALO, N.Y. - Nyenta -- The National Association of Black Law Enforcement Officers, Inc. (NABLEO) will hold their 2024 Education and Training Conference, Board of Directors meetings, Awards and Scholarship Ceremonies from Wednesday, October 9th thru Friday, October 11th at the Marriott Buffalo Niagara Hotel, 1340 Millersport Hwy in Amherst, NY. Themed "Police Reform: Rebuilding Community Trust and Confidence", this three-day series of events has been designed to enhance and improve the relationships between community members and their law enforcement guardians.
A special pre-conference training session on "De-Escalation Principles and Practices" will be offered, FREE OF CHARGE, Monday, October 7 and Tuesday October 8 to New York-based law enforcement officers, hosted by the Amherst Police Department. Limited to twenty (20) participants, this program is being offered in partnership with the University of New Haven under a US Department of Justice COPS grant. The conference will also feature several presentations specifically directed towards members of the community. A special Wednesday, October 9 evening community event from 6:00 PM until 8:30 PM, will be held at the Johnnie B. Wiley Amateur Athletic Sports Pavilion, located at 1100 Jefferson Ave, Buffalo, NY 14208, and is directed towards helping community members avoid and prevent police encounters from going bad. Titled "What To Do When Stopped By The Police", the program is presented free of charge and is open to all members of the general public, media, and law enforcement.
A Friday October 11 morning session entitled "Not Just Surviving-But Thriving in Retirement" will be offered FREE OF CHARGE to all members of the general public and law enforcement. Limited to fifty participants, interested parties may register online at https://conference.nableo.org/special_training.cfm?conferenceid=3.
Friday evening will feature a Scholarship and Awards Ceremony beginning with a cocktail reception from 6:00 PM until 7:00 PM, followed by dinner. Members of law enforcement and the community will be recognized for their accomplishments and efforts towards building stronger bridges and relationships between police and community. Among the honors to be presented will be the Law Enforcement Leadership Award, Community Leadership Award, Community Policing Award, Community Service Award, Chairman's Award, Lifetime Achievement Award and the Children of Courage Scholarship Award. The keynote speaker will be Commissioner Joseph Gramaglia of the Buffalo Police Department, with Master of Ceremonies Rev. James A. Lewis of the Miracle Missions Full Gospel Church.
