ALEXANDRIA, Va., Sept. 26, 2024 ~ In a joint effort to improve family-school partnerships and student outcomes, the National PTA and the Center for Research and Reform in Education (CRRE) at Johns Hopkins University have launched a new online tool called Family Engagement Solutions. This free resource is designed to assist district and school leaders, educators, and advocates in finding evidence-based programs that strengthen family engagement.
The initiative is spearheaded by National PTA's Center for Family Engagement, in collaboration with CRRE's Evidence for ESSA initiative. Through FamilyEngagementSolutions.org, users can access a database of programs that have been proven to contribute to learning and improvement goals. The website also provides information on program implementation, where they are being used across the country, and which student populations benefit from them.
According to Yvonne Johnson, president of National PTA, decades of research have shown that family engagement is just as crucial as a rigorous curriculum and effective leaders and teachers when it comes to accelerating learning. She emphasizes the urgency of supporting schools and districts in engaging families in ways that have been proven to drive better outcomes for students, families, and schools.

To further promote the importance of strategic family engagement, National PTA is co-hosting a webinar with AASA, The School Superintendents Association and Education Week on Thursday, Sept. 26 at 2 p.m. EDT. The webinar will feature leaders and practitioners from districts and schools that have successfully used family engagement as a tool to achieve significant improvements in student outcomes. Interested individuals can register for the webinar by visiting edweek.org.
Nathan R. Monell, CAE, executive director of National PTA, explains that many school and district leaders are looking for more impactful ways to use their limited budgets on strategies to engage families. With Family Engagement Solutions, they can find programs that have been proven to work elsewhere and make informed decisions on what would be the best fit for their students, families, and schools.
The programs featured in Family Engagement Solutions have been vetted and curated by a team of experts. This includes family engagement experts who track innovations and best practices, parent and community leaders who assess the focus on family engagement, and education researchers who review program evaluations to determine their strength of evidence in relation to federal requirements in the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).
