~ New Rochelle, NY- In the early hours of Sunday, May 12th, 2024, an assault with a baseball bat occurred at the intersection of Washington Avenue and Fourth Street. The New Rochelle Police Department responded to the scene at approximately 3:45am.
Upon arrival, officers discovered two male victims, a 36-year-old and his 66-year-old uncle. Both men had sustained serious head injuries, with the older victim being unresponsive but breathing. They were immediately transported to a nearby hospital for treatment, with the 66-year-old requiring surgery.

After conducting an investigation, New Rochelle detectives were able to gather leads that led to the arrest of a suspect in connection with the assault. The suspect has been identified as 28-year-old Jose Ochoa of New Rochelle.
Ochoa is facing multiple charges under New York State Penal Law including first-degree assault, second-degree assault, and criminal possession of a weapon. He is currently in custody and awaiting further legal proceedings.
The New Rochelle Police Department is urging anyone with information about this incident to come forward and contact them at 914-654-2300. The names of the victims are being withheld at this time as the investigation is ongoing.
