~ New Rochelle, NY - The City of New Rochelle has announced a new partnership with Helpsy, a clothing collection company, to offer free and convenient home pickup services for clothing and textile recycling. This collaboration with Westchester County is part of the city's efforts to promote responsible disposal of unwanted clothing and reduce waste.
Starting November 2nd, residents of New Rochelle can schedule weekly pickups on Saturdays between 7AM-5PM by appointment. The city has also made accommodations for religious observances. Interested individuals can sign up for the service at www.helpsy.co/newrochelleny or call 1-800-244-6350.
New Rochelle is the 57th municipality to partner with Helpsy in providing this service, joining fourteen other towns and villages in Westchester County. Council Member Sara Kaye expressed her excitement about the partnership, stating that it will not only save the city money on disposal fees but also help save the planet by keeping clothes out of landfills.
The initiative was brought to the attention of city leadership by members of the Ecology and Natural Resource Advisory Committee. In addition to clothing, Helpsy's recycling program also accepts shoes, bags, towels, blankets, and other textiles in any condition as long as they are clean and dry.

Helpsy is a certified B corporation with a mission to extend the useful life of clothing and reduce textile waste. They currently operate in 10 states and have over 1,200 collection points. Their goal is to provide convenient alternatives to throwing away clothes while supporting charities and thrift stores.
Dan Green, Co-Founder and CEO of Helpsy, stated that their mission is to keep clothes out of the trash while maintaining high standards for social and environmental performance. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, textile waste is one of the fastest-growing types of trash in the country. Americans throw away 85% of their clothes each year, making partnerships like this crucial in reducing waste.
In 2023 alone, Helpsy diverted nearly 30 million pounds of textiles from the waste stream through various initiatives such as clothing drives, home pickups, and partnerships with thrift stores. The company collects an item of clothing every second, highlighting the urgency of addressing textile waste.
