~ Westchester County residents will have the opportunity to get their hands on some nutrient-rich compost this May, as the Department of Environmental Facilities (DEF) announces five upcoming giveaway events. The compost, produced at the County's CompostED site in Valhalla, is made from local food scraps and supports sustainability efforts in the community.
The DEF has already hosted four successful giveaway events in March and April, and due to popular demand, they have scheduled five more for May. These events aim to promote food scrap recycling and give residents access to high-quality compost made right here in Westchester.
To participate in these events, residents must register in advance as quantities are limited. The event schedule includes a variety of dates and locations across the county, making it convenient for all residents to attend. The first event will take place on Wednesday, May 7 at the Household Materials Recycling Facility in Valhalla from 4-7 p.m. Other locations include Saxon Woods Park in White Plains on Saturday, May 10 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Sprout Brook DEF Facility in Cortlandt on Wednesday, May 21 from 4-7 p.m., and Croton Point Park on Tuesday, May 27 from 4-7 p.m.
