~ New Rochelle, NY - The City of New Rochelle Department of Parks and Recreation and the Ward Acres Conservancy have joined forces to bring back the beloved goats to Ward Acres Park. In celebration of their return, they are hosting Hands and Hooves 2025: A Sustainability Festival on Saturday, June 7th from 10:00AM to 2:00PM.

The festival will take place in Ward Acres Park, located across from William B. Ward Elementary School. It will feature exhibits by local partners and vendors, live music, food trucks, demonstrations, nature and historical walks, and more. The main focus of the event is to promote sustainable practices, including composting of event waste.

One of the highlights of the festival will be a short walk to an area where a herd of approximately 30 goats can be observed eating their way through dense invasive plant growth. These goats are provided by Fat and Sassy Goats from Rhinebeck, NY - a full-service goat grazing services company dedicated to restoring land to an ecological balance. The goats will be safely contained behind child and pet-friendly solar-powered electrical fencing.

For safety reasons, visitors will not be able to pet the goats. However, they can observe them in action as they work towards restoring the park's natural balance. The goats will be in the park from June 2nd through approximately June 10th.

The festival is made possible in part by The Young Companies - a company known for its rehabilitative and revitalizing impact on New Rochelle. Their latest project, Tennis Innovators Academy on Quaker Ridge Road, is set to open soon.

Parking for the event is free at Ward Elementary School or along Broadfield Road where permitted. However, visitors are encouraged to walk, bike or take public transportation such as BeeLine 45Q bus to reduce traffic congestion. Attendees are also encouraged to bring their own water bottles for refilling at the event. A picnic blanket, sunscreen, and a friendly smile for neighbors are also recommended. Dogs are welcome but must remain on a leash and be well-behaved. Pet owners are reminded to pick up after their pets as it is required by law.
