~ In a display of solidarity and nonpartisan support, the City of New Rochelle has joined forces with 31 other municipalities in Westchester County to oppose Consolidated Edison's (Con Edison) proposed rate increases. This consortium, representing nearly 1 million residents, has enlisted the services of Joel Dichter from Dichter Law LLC to advocate for their interests in front of the New York State Public Service Commission (PSC).

On January 31, 2025, Con Edison submitted a petition to the PSC requesting an increase in electric and gas rates effective January 1, 2026. The proposed plan includes an 18% hike in electric rates, with a staggering 25.1% increase in residential delivery charges and a 19.1% rise in natural gas delivery rates. These potential increases come on the heels of a previous 20% rate hike over the past three years, placing an additional financial burden on residents and businesses throughout Westchester County.

To voice their concerns about these proposed rate increases, Con Ed customers are encouraged to participate in virtual public statement hearings hosted by the New York State Department of Public Service (NYSDPS). These hearings will take place on April 8 at 1 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., as well as April 9 at 1 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. In order to make a public statement, individuals must register one day prior to the hearing through the NYSDPS website at https://tinyurl.com/DPSConEdPublicHearings.

The City of New Rochelle and its fellow municipalities are determined to fight against these potential rate hikes and urge all affected residents to make their voices heard during these public hearings. For more information on the rate case and how to register for the virtual public statement hearings, please visit https://tinyurl.com/DPSConEdPublicHearings on the NYSDPS website.
