~ New Rochelle, NY - On Saturday, March 15, 2025, the New Rochelle Police Department responded to a commercial burglar alarm at 212 North Avenue at approximately 4:50am. Upon arrival, officers discovered that the front window of the establishment had been shattered with a rock, indicating a break-in. Through swift investigative efforts, officers were able to identify and apprehend a suspect believed to be involved in the incident.
The suspect, identified as 25-year-old Marcos Veloz of New York City, was found in possession of tools consistent with the method of entry observed at the scene. These tools included a prybar, hatchet, and mallet. Veloz was taken into custody without incident.
Thanks to the New Rochelle Police Department's rapid response and thorough investigation, the suspect was apprehended before any further crimes could occur. As the investigation continued, officers noted similarities between this incident and a previous commercial burglary on March 12th at a business on Main Street. In both cases, entry was gained through forced means and evidence suggested a pattern of criminal behavior.

Further leads were pursued by officers which led to conclusive evidence linking Veloz to the Main Street burglary as well. As a result, he has been charged with two counts of burglary in the third degree - D felony; two counts of criminal mischief in the third degree - E felony; and possession of burglar's tools - A misdemeanor.
The New Rochelle Police Department is urging anyone with additional information about these incidents to come forward and contact them through their non-emergency line at (914) 654-2300 or anonymously at (914) 632-COPS.
