~ New Rochelle, NY - The New Rochelle Police Department has made a significant breakthrough in the investigation of the fatal shooting that occurred on Rhoda Quash Lane in the Heritage Homes Complex on January 6th, 2025. After days of relentless searching and investigation, the alleged shooter, Ali Mohammed, was apprehended today at approximately 1:00 pm.
According to New Rochelle Detectives, Mohammed, a 21-year-old resident of Mt. Vernon, NY, turned himself in with the assistance of concerned community members. He is now in custody at the New Rochelle Police Department along with three other previously arrested individuals. The suspects are awaiting further legal proceedings as the investigation continues.
The shooting took place at around 10:49 am on January 6th when officers responded to reports of shots fired in the area. Upon arrival, they found a 22-year-old male victim from Mt. Vernon suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his chest. Despite immediate medical aid from responding officers, the victim was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.

New Rochelle Detectives quickly arrived at the scene and identified several persons of interest who were brought in for questioning. One suspect was also apprehended when he sought medical treatment for a gunshot wound to his hand in the Bronx. Preliminary information suggests that there was a personal dispute between the shooter and victim which led to the fatal incident.
The victim has been identified as David Smith, also 22 years old and from Mt. Vernon.
The New Rochelle Police Department is urging anyone with information about this incident to come forward and contact their Detective Division at (914) 654-2300. Anonymous tips can also be submitted through their confidential tip line at (914) 632-COPS.
In addition to Mohammed's arrest, two other suspects have been taken into custody - Marquis Williamson, 21 years old from Newark, NJ and Amiri Oneal, 21 years old from Mt. Vernon, NY. They have both been charged with second-degree murder, an A-1 felony under New York State Penal Law Section 125.25.
Another suspect, Anthony Webster, 20 years old from Mt. Vernon, NY, has also been arrested and charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the second and third degree - C and D felonies respectively under New York State Penal Law Sections 265.03 and 265.02.
The New Rochelle Police Department is still actively investigating this case and is asking for the public's help in providing any information that may assist in bringing justice for the victim and his family.
