NEW YORK, May 12, 2025 ~ New York City Hospital Price Finder Tool Empowers Patients to Make Informed Healthcare Decisions

PatientRightsAdvocate.org (PRA) has announced the launch of the New York City Hospital Price Finder Tool, providing free access to all available prices for patients treated in New York City hospitals. This tool aims to empower patients by allowing them to compare prices, prevent overcharges, and have recourse for surprise bills. Patients, employers, unions, and researchers in New York City can now easily search for posted prices by hospital, procedure, plan, and code at NYCHospitalPrices.org.

According to Cynthia Fisher, Founder and Chairman of PRA, this tool is a significant step towards addressing the issue of hidden healthcare prices in New York City. "The New York City Hospital Price Finder Tool is a huge step for New York City healthcare consumers, who have long suffered from hidden healthcare prices, kept secret by hospitals and insurers alike," she said. "This tool will enable patients to easily compare actual prices, including discounted cash rates, and choose the best care at a price they can afford."

The launch of this tool comes after the passing of legislation sponsored by New York City Council Member Julie Menin in June 2023. The legislation established the nation's first Office of Health Care Accountability with the aim of equipping New Yorkers with upfront pricing information for healthcare decisions. Council Member Menin believes that this tool will provide patients with peace of mind when making medical decisions. "Now, patients can easily research ahead of medical decisions with peace of mind that New York City will enforce price transparency to safeguard their physical and financial well-being," she said.

The Singh family from New York City has also spoken out about the value of this service. Shameeza Singh shared how having access to upfront and real prices would have made a significant difference for her family when making medical decisions for their son's treatment. "If we had been able to compare in advance, we would have been willing to drive a little further, or perhaps even had a better option nearby, to avoid the tremendous debt that has burdened our family throughout an incredibly vulnerable time," she said.

PRA has previously introduced a similar tool in Colorado and plans to continue expanding resources for patients across the country. According to Manny Pastreich, President of 32BJ SEIU, this tool will allow New Yorkers to quickly compare healthcare prices across the city. "We need real transparency and accountability to make informed decisions and lower costs, and this resource is a strong step in that direction," he said.

The launch of the New York City Hospital Price Finder Tool marks a significant milestone in PRA's mission to bring about systemwide transparency in healthcare pricing. The organization believes that the availability and visibility of actual, upfront healthcare prices will greatly lower costs for patients and employers through a functional, competitive healthcare marketplace.

With this new tool, patients in New York City can now make more informed decisions about their healthcare while also protecting themselves from overcharges. It is a crucial step towards creating a more transparent and affordable healthcare system for all.
