~ Rochester, NY - Mayor Malik D. Evans is calling on children ages 6-15 to tap into their creativity and imagination and showcase their unique visions of peace through art. The 2024 Mayors for Peace Art Competition invites young artists to participate and have their work displayed in the City Hall Link Gallery.
As a member of Mayors for Peace, a global consortium of 8,200 cities in 166 countries and regions dedicated to achieving lasting world peace, Rochester is proud to host this competition. Each year, Mayors for Peace holds a children's art competition, with ten pieces from Rochester being selected to advance to the International Mayors for Peace Competition in Hiroshima, Japan. There, they will compete for the prestigious Mayors for Peace President's Award.
Mayor Evans expressed his excitement about the competition, stating that "through their art, youth can show us in a profound way how to make the world more peaceful." He also highlighted Rochester's membership in the Mayors for Peace Initiative and encouraged all eligible children to submit their artwork by Friday, September 13th through the city's website.
