~ Rochester, NY - The City of Rochester and Monroe County are teaming up to offer a unique opportunity for local youth this summer. The Summer of Opportunity Program (SOOP) and the Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) are now accepting applications from youth ages 14 to 20.

Administered in partnership with RochesterWorks, these programs provide paid internships for youth who are currently enrolled in middle school, high school, or actively pursuing their high school equivalency diploma. The goal of these programs is to equip participants with valuable skills that will prepare them for future success in the workforce and academics.

The application period is currently open and will remain so until all job and internship opportunities are filled. However, interested youth are encouraged to apply early as spots are limited. To be eligible, applicants must be at least 14 years old by May 31.

Once the application is completed, participants will have the opportunity to interview for paid summer jobs and/or internships. In the past, participating employers have included the City of Rochester, community organizations, colleges, and local businesses.

To complete the application process, youth must submit several documents before the deadline. These include a work permit, social security card, school report card, and official photo identification such as a school ID or driver's license. However, the application process can be started without submitting these documents.

To make things easier for applicants, program administrators will be holding four in-person document drop-off events at the Loretta C. Scott Center for Human Services on February 18-21 and April 17 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., as well as on March 6 and April 15 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

It's important to note that selection for these programs is competitive and jobs are not guaranteed. Interested youth can apply or learn more by visiting ROCSummerYouth.com or by calling the Summer Youth Hotline at (585) 428-6366.

This is a great opportunity for local youth to gain valuable skills and experience while earning a paycheck. Don't miss out on the chance to be a part of the Summer of Opportunity Program and the Summer Youth Employment Program. Apply now!
