~ Rochester, NY- Mayor Malik D. Evans has announced the launch of a city-wide survey to assess the impact of the opioid epidemic on the community. The survey, which will run through February 2025, aims to gather data on various aspects such as quality of life, barriers to care, overdose prevention, and family impact.
According to Mayor Evans, establishing a strong foundation of data is crucial in combating this public health crisis. He stated that the growing national opioid epidemic has claimed lives and devastated neighborhoods in Rochester, exacerbating existing challenges of violence and poverty. He emphasized the need for an all-hands-on-deck approach in developing a comprehensive and sustainable solution to this problem.
To ensure a comprehensive understanding of the issue, the City has formed an Opioid Steering Committee with representatives from Monroe County, public safety departments, city residents, and various community health and human services organizations. This collaboration aims to centralize local data on the opioid epidemic, including information on deaths and community impact.

In addition to the survey, the City's Neighborhood Ambassador Program has also facilitated community input sessions in partnership with Monroe County. These sessions have taken place in all quadrants of the city with two more scheduled for next month. The Northwest Community Input Meeting will be held on January 14th at Cameron Community Ministries while the Southeast Community Input Meeting will take place on January 21st at Blessed Sacrament Church.
The insights gathered from both the survey and input sessions will inform collaborative efforts to address the opioid epidemic in Rochester. They will also help determine how the City will allocate its share of State opioid settlement funds which are expected to total $3.8 million by 2025.

Mayor Evans urges everyone to take part in this important initiative as it will play a crucial role in shaping future actions to combat the opioid epidemic in the city.
