~ Rochester, NY- Mayor Malik D. Evans has announced that the City of Rochester is now accepting applications for their Targeted Home Improvement Program (T-HIP). This program aims to provide crucial assistance to eligible owner-occupants for essential repairs, as part of the city's efforts to improve housing quality and ensure safe living conditions for residents.

Funded by a $4 million grant from the New York State Housing Trust Fund Corporation, T-HIP is a significant step forward in the city's ongoing efforts to provide safe and healthy living conditions for its residents. Mayor Evans encourages all eligible owner-occupants to take advantage of this opportunity.

Interested owner-occupants must visit their Neighborhood Service Center (NSC) office to submit a pre-application form by August 26, 2024. The selection process will be done through random selection, with drawings taking place at each NSC office on August 27 at 2 p.m. While applicants do not need to be present during the drawing, they are welcome to attend if space permits.

Once selected, winners will need to complete a full program application which will then be reviewed by the city to determine final eligibility. The T-HIP program will provide funding assistance for essential repairs such as addressing lead-based paint hazards, mitigating health and safety hazards, and correcting code violations.

To be eligible for T-HIP, applicants must be an owner-occupant of a 1-to-4 unit residential property located in the City of Rochester. Additionally, their total household income must not exceed eighty percent (80%) of the area median income (AMI) as defined by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

More information about T-HIP can be found online or at local NSC offices from Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. The City of Rochester has four NSC locations: Northwest NSC at 400 Dewey Ave, Northeast NSC at 500 Norton St, Southwest NSC at 923 Genesee St, and Southeast NSC at 320 N. Goodman St., Suite 209.

This program is just one of several initiatives by the City of Rochester to improve housing quality and ensure safe living conditions for its residents. Mayor Evans and the city are committed to providing vital assistance to eligible owner-occupants through T-HIP and encourage all eligible individuals to apply before the deadline.
