~ Rochester, NY- Mayor Malik D. Evans and Rochester City School District Interim Superintendent Dr. Demario Strickland have announced their collaboration on the "Pillars of Hope" mentorship program for the upcoming school year. The program aims to connect local Black and Latinx professionals with elementary and middle school students in an effort to provide positive support and guidance.
Volunteers are being sought to visit RCSD schools and share their experiences with students. The program will kick off with a virtual information session on Wednesday, August 7 at 6 p.m. via Zoom webinar. Interested individuals can register for the webinar at www.cityofrochester.gov/pillarsofhope.

The "Pillars of Hope" program works closely with educators at RCSD elementary and middle schools to introduce students to successful professionals who can inspire them to pursue their dreams, share personal stories of overcoming challenges, and offer valuable insights into life skills such as goal setting and career selection.
Volunteers are expected to commit at least one hour each month to participate in team activities including classroom visits and field trips. They will also be encouraged to foster a personal connection with students by identifying shared experiences.
Individuals interested in becoming a "Pillar of Hope" can sign up by Thursday, August 15 or contact the Mayor's Office of Special Projects at (585) 428-7192 for more information.
