~ The City of Rochester has announced its plans to apply for Round 8 of New York State's Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) in hopes of securing up to $10 million in grant funding. In order to gather input from the community, an open house will be held on Thursday, Sept. 26, 2024 from 4 to 6 p.m. at First Federal Plaza.
Mayor Malik D. Evans expressed the city's commitment to revitalizing the Four Corners area of Downtown and restoring its historic significance. He believes that this grant, if successful, will help continue the momentum of recent investments and contribute to a vibrant and thriving Center City.
The targeted area for this application is the Four Corners section of Downtown, which is bordered by W. Broad Street, the Genesee River, the Inner Loop North, and N. Fitzhugh Street. This area holds great historical significance for Rochester but has unfortunately suffered from disinvestment over time, resulting in high vacancy rates and increasing blight.

The proposed DRI grant aims to build upon recent investments in the area such as Constellation Brands' new headquarters and various public infrastructure improvements including State Street Reconstruction, Aqueduct District Street Improvement, and Main Street Streetscape projects. The new Austin Steward Plaza and other ongoing projects also contribute to the revitalization efforts.
Residents, developers, business owners, and property owners are encouraged to attend the open house at First Federal Plaza to provide their input on shaping a future that benefits both residents and visitors alike. More information about the DRI planning process and the City's application can be found at www.cityofrochester.gov/DRI8.
