~ Rochester Mayor Malik D. Evans has announced the launch of a new Crisis Intervention Services (CIS) mobile-response vehicle, which will provide crucial support to victims and their families in the aftermath of a crime. The vehicle, equipped with amenities such as a wheelchair lift, bathroom, and seating area, will allow City staff from the Department of Recreation and Human Services Crisis Intervention Services team to respond directly to crime scenes.
According to Mayor Evans, the mobile response vehicle will serve as a safe and private space for those who have experienced the sudden trauma of losing a loved one to violence. It will also serve as a place for investigators and the Medical Examiner's Office to share important information and answer questions.
The Mayor expressed his gratitude towards members of the Congressional delegation for their support in providing resources for this project. He believes that by showing empathy and concern towards these vulnerable families, Rochester is moving closer towards creating a safe and prosperous community.
U.S. Senator Charles Schumer also shared his pride in helping secure funding for Rochester's new CIS mobile response unit. He believes that this unit will not only enhance the effectiveness of first responders but also provide essential care and comfort to victims of violence and those affected by crises.

The seven-passenger CIS Mobile-Response Vehicle is equipped with various amenities such as a wheelchair lift, bathroom, microwave, mini-fridge, awning, storage space, and comfortable seating. It aims to create a welcoming atmosphere for members of the Homicide Response Team to build relationships with families as they navigate through grief and loss in the weeks and months to come.
Funding for the mobile unit was secured through the Congressionally Directed Spending package by Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer, Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, and U.S. Rep. Joseph Morelle.
