~ Mayor Malik D. Evans, accompanied by city officials and community members, presided over a ribbon cutting ceremony today to mark the completion of a major renovation project at Norton Village Park playground. The project, which took nearly a year to complete, was aimed at creating a safe and inviting space for children to play and learn.

In his speech, Mayor Evans emphasized the importance of playgrounds in a community's infrastructure, stating that they are just as crucial as roads and bridges. "As a father, I know firsthand the value of a good playground. And as the Mayor, I can attest to the same thing," he said. He also highlighted how investing in the healthy development of children is essential in creating a safe, equitable, and prosperous city.

The renovation project included several upgrades such as new pre-teen and tot playsets, swings, rubberized surfacing, and curb surrounds. The playground was also relocated to increase visibility and proximity to the picnic area. Additionally, a new path system and more shade trees were added for the comfort of park-goers. As part of the project, old basketball and tennis courts were removed.

Funding for this nearly $500,000 project came from the City's annual allotment from the U.S. Community Development Block Grant. The construction work was carried out by Titan Construction and RAVI Engineering.

The renovated Norton Village Park playground is now ready to welcome children from all over Rochester with its improved facilities and enhanced safety measures. This project is another step towards Mayor Evans' vision of creating a safe, equitable, and prosperous city for all its residents by providing opportunities for growth and development.
