~ Today, Mayor Malik D. Evans, City Council President Miguel A. Meléndez Jr., and Councilmember Michael Patterson of the Northwest District celebrated the grand re-opening of the Lincoln Branch Library after a year-long renovation project.
The Lincoln Branch Library, located at 851 Joseph Ave., serves a population of over 33,000 people and is the largest branch service area for the Rochester Public Library (RPL) system. The library also hosts a Toy Library, a regional resource for families incorporating a play area, early childhood education materials, and toy and game lending; as well as the RPL's largest collection of Spanish language materials.
At the ribbon cutting ceremony, Mayor Evans expressed his enthusiasm for the newly renovated library: "Today is more than just the grand re-opening of a library; it is the opening of a library this community deserves. It is a library that is welcoming with programs and services that reflect the evolution of learning and understanding. It is a library that inspires hope and delivers opportunity to all people in Rochester."

The building entrance was redesigned to be modern and welcoming in order to promote interaction between the library and its surrounding community. Inside, the circulation desk and business center (which includes free fax/scan and notary services) were relocated closer to the entrance with direct sight lines to other interior spaces. The Children's Center was relocated to be adjacent to the Toy Library with no wall separating them in order to create one large area for programming and active play. As a result, both libraries now have identical operating hours: 10am-6pm Monday-Wednesday; 12pm-6pm Thursday & Friday; 12pm-4pm Saturday.
The Administration of Mayor Malik D. Evans strives to create an equitable Rochester by inspiring hope and delivering opportunity for everyone through exceptional customer service, transparent stewardship, and collaborative leadership that fosters personal growth for all who live there. With today's ribbon cutting ceremony marking yet another success in this mission, it appears that they are well on their way towards achieving their goals for Rochester 2034.
