~ Rochester Launches Mobile Workforce Development Shuttle to Bring Career Resources to Residents

Mayor Malik D. Evans has announced the launch of a new mobile workforce development shuttle in the City of Rochester. The shuttle, operated by the Department of Recreation and Human Services, aims to provide residents with career readiness resources and employment information directly in their neighborhoods.

According to Mayor Evans, this initiative is about supporting Rochester residents where they are. "We're bringing job resources, career support, and opportunities directly to the neighborhoods that need it most," he said. "Whether someone is just starting out, changing career paths, or looking for a second chance, we can now come to you because we believe in your future."

City Council Vice President LaShay Harris also emphasized the importance of workforce development programs in supporting residents. "This new mobile unit and the staff who operate it will improve access to employment and workforce development resources and opportunities for those with transportation barriers," she said.

The mobile unit is a modified shuttle bus equipped with built-in countertops, chairs, a flat screen TV, overhead bins, power outlets, Wi-Fi, and laptop computers. Staff with specialized training in providing career and workforce development information will operate the shuttle.

Residents can utilize the space on the shuttle to perform job searches, update and write resumes, apply for employment opportunities, learn about upcoming local job fairs, research career resources, and more.

The mobile unit will be present at all ROC the Block Employment Fairs this summer at various locations including International Plaza on June 11th and Parcel 5 on September 24th. In addition to visiting neighborhoods, the City has also partnered with local organizations to bring the mobile unit to outdoor community events such as Action for a Better Community Celebration at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Park on May 17th and First Genesis Baptist Church on May 23rd.

Residents are encouraged to take advantage of this new resource and learn more about workforce development. The City of Rochester is committed to supporting its residents in their career journeys and believes that this mobile unit will make a significant impact in breaking down employment barriers such as childcare and transportation.
