~ Rochester residents are being urged to take proactive steps in preparing for potential disasters by attending the New York State Citizen Preparedness Corps training class. The class will be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 1 at the David F. Gantt R-Center, located at 700 North St.
The training program, developed by the New York Division of Homeland Security in 2014, aims to equip residents with the necessary tools and resources to respond and recover from any type of disaster or emergency. Led by members of the N.Y. National Guard and experts from the Division's Office of Emergency Management and Office of Fire Prevention and Control, the course will cover topics such as emergency alert notifications, developing family emergency plans, and stocking up on essential supplies.

He emphasized the importance of being prepared for unexpected disasters in order to ensure safety for oneself and loved ones, reduce potential damage, and recover quickly.
Residents interested in attending the training are encouraged to register online by Tuesday, April 29 at www.cityofrochester.gov/citizenpreparednesstraining/. Each family that participates will receive a free N.Y. State Disaster Preparedness Kit containing key items that will be useful in the immediate aftermath of a disaster.
