~ Rochester, NY - Mayor Malik D. Evans has announced the highly anticipated return of ROC the Riverway Weekend, a three-day celebration of the revitalization of Rochester's Genesee River waterfront. The event will take place from October 4th to 6th at various locations on and near the river.
According to Mayor Evans, "ROC the Riverway Weekend celebrates the incredible transformation of our riverfront and invites the community to experience Rochester's natural beauty and progress." He also expressed his gratitude towards the volunteers and partners who have contributed to this celebration and their dedication to revitalizing one of the city's greatest assets.
Dating back more than 40 years, ROC the Riverway Weekend is a series of events that offer residents and visitors a chance to explore Rochester's relationship with the Genesee River, Lake Ontario, and the Erie Canal. The weekend will feature a variety of activities such as scenic boat cruises, birding-focused tours, visits to historical sites like Charlotte-Genesee Lighthouse, guided walking, bicycle and paddle tours, presentations on local history, opportunities to view the fall salmon run, and a sturgeon release near Lower Falls. Additionally, there will be tours of the historic aqueduct former Erie Canal and subway system. To make it easier for visitors to explore these attractions, the Genesee River Alliance has partnered with Tour Blend to create self-guided tours using their mobile app.
