NEW YORK ~ National Arbitration and Mediation (NAM) has recently announced the addition of the Honorable Peter J. O'Donoghue (Ret.) to their esteemed team of neutrals. With a remarkable judicial career spanning 27 years, Judge O'Donoghue brings a wealth of experience and expertise to NAM.
During his time as a Justice of the Supreme Court in Queens County, Judge O'Donoghue spent 15 years in the Medical Malpractice Part. In fact, from 2008 until his retirement, he was exclusively assigned to handle all medical and dental malpractice filings in the Queens County courthouse. During this time, he successfully resolved over 300 medical malpractice matters each year through conferences, negotiations, mediations, and settlements.

Judge O'Donoghue's legal career began as a law intern at the Queens Legal Aid Society before becoming a law assistant for the Criminal Court in Bronx County. In 1982, he served as Principal Law Clerk to Honorable John J. Clabby of Queens County Supreme Court's Criminal Term for thirteen years. During this time, he also served as an arbitrator for Small Claims Court cases at night.
In 1996, Judge O'Donoghue was elected as a New York City Civil Court Judge and later served as Acting Supreme Court Justice in 2001. He was then elected to the Supreme Court's Civil Part in the Eleventh Judicial District in 2002 where he presided over personal injury, labor law, general liability, and guardianship matters through the Individual Assignment System (IAS). He eventually moved on to handle medical malpractice cases, where he excelled in understanding the complexities of each case and showing compassion while fairly evaluating them.
Known for his ability to listen to both sides of a case and his flexible approach, Judge O'Donoghue is highly respected by both plaintiffs and defense attorneys. He is known for his dedication to resolving cases as efficiently as possible while maintaining fairness and compassion.
