Karun Thankachan, a Senior Data Scientist and Top Data Mentor provides actionable advice to land jobs
NEW YORK - Nyenta -- Top Mentor Helps Crack the 2025 Data Science Market
In 2012, Thomas H. Davenport and DJ Patil called Data Science "The Sexiest Job of the 21st Century." 13 years later the market looks anything but glamorous. Entry-level roles are nearly extinct, job descriptions list enough skills for an entire team, and interview processes jump from algorithm challenges to deep dives into LLMs.
But tough times spark creative solutions, such as the Data Science mentorship through TopMate. Karun Thankachan, one of TopMate's Top 10 Data Mentor in US (https://topmate.io/topusers/top100-data-us), has been helping candidates navigate this brutal market.
Since 2022, Karun has guided hundreds of Data Science aspirants. He's done over 1,000 one-on-one calls, spoken at colleges, appeared on podcasts, and led workshops that have helped dozens land jobs. Here's his advice for breaking into Data Science in 2025.

Networking takes time, but a great first step sending personalized connection requests. Karun advises spending 30 minutes a day expanding your network through thoughtful interactions.
Stay Consistent
There's no magic formula. You already know what to do—the hard part is sticking with it. The people who land jobs are the ones who show up every day, apply, ask for referrals, and prepare for interviews.
Breaking into Data Science in 2025 won't be easy. But you're not in this alone.
