Yonkers, NY ~ Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano, in collaboration with the Yonkers Kiwanis Club and the Yonkers Board of Education, has announced the launch of the 2025 Teacher of the Year Awards. This prestigious award aims to recognize and celebrate outstanding teachers in the Yonkers Public Schools system who have shown exceptional dedication and commitment to their students.
Nominations for this award are now open and can be submitted by students, parents, teachers, and administrators through the city's official website, www.yonkersny.gov. The deadline for nominations is Monday, March 3 at 5 PM.
Established in 1956, the Teacher of the Year Award has been a long-standing tradition in Yonkers. It honors teachers who have gone above and beyond to promote excellence in education. A committee made up of members from the Yonkers Kiwanis Club and Trustees of the Board of Education will select three deserving teachers from different levels - elementary, middle, and high school.

To be eligible for the Teacher of the Year Award, a teacher must have at least five years of employment in the Yonkers Public Schools system and demonstrate dedication to teaching. They must also have initiated new and meaningful programs for students, teachers, or parents, or shown innovation in using existing programs. Additionally, community involvement is also a significant factor in the selection process.
