Yonkers, NY ~ Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano, in collaboration with the Yonkers Kiwanis Club and the Yonkers Board of Education, has announced the launch of the 2025 Teacher of the Year Awards. This prestigious award aims to recognize and celebrate outstanding teachers in the Yonkers Public Schools system who have shown exceptional dedication and commitment to their students.

Nominations for this award are now open and can be submitted by students, parents, teachers, and administrators through the city's official website, www.yonkersny.gov. The deadline for nominations is Monday, March 3 at 5 PM.

Established in 1956, the Teacher of the Year Award has been a long-standing tradition in Yonkers. It honors teachers who have gone above and beyond to promote excellence in education. A committee made up of members from the Yonkers Kiwanis Club and Trustees of the Board of Education will select three deserving teachers from different levels - elementary, middle, and high school.

Mayor Spano expressed his pride in honoring these exceptional educators who are an integral part of the Yonkers community. He stated that their hard work both inside and outside the classroom deserves recognition. He also highlighted the partnership between the City, Yonkers Kiwanis Club, and Board of Education as a way to celebrate these everyday heroes.

Superintendent of Schools Aníbal Soler Jr. also praised these dedicated teachers for their daily efforts in inspiring, challenging, and uplifting their students. He encouraged everyone - students, parents, colleagues - to take this opportunity to nominate a teacher who has made a significant impact on their lives.

Rosalba Corrado Delvecchio, President of the Board of Education, emphasized that this award is a meaningful way for the community to show gratitude and admiration for these exceptional educators. She acknowledged their unwavering commitment to transforming classrooms into spaces of growth and achievement.

To be eligible for the Teacher of the Year Award, a teacher must have at least five years of employment in the Yonkers Public Schools system and demonstrate dedication to teaching. They must also have initiated new and meaningful programs for students, teachers, or parents, or shown innovation in using existing programs. Additionally, community involvement is also a significant factor in the selection process.

Erin Anderson, President of the Yonkers Kiwanis Club, expressed their pride in sponsoring this esteemed award. She stated that it is an honor to work with the City and Board of Education to recognize teachers who bring excellence to the education system and make a lasting difference in their students' lives and the community.

The Yonkers Kiwanis Club encourages everyone to submit their nominations before the deadline on March 3rd at 5 PM. This is an excellent opportunity to show appreciation for these exceptional educators who inspire excellence in their students and schools.
