Yonkers, NY ~ Today, Mayor Mike Spano and Police Commissioner Christopher Sapienza presided over a ceremony at the Grinton I. Will Library in Yonkers, NY that added two-dozen new Probationary Police Officers to the Yonkers Police Department, as well as elevated 11 members to positions of higher ranks and responsibilities.
The new recruits are scheduled to enter the Westchester County Department of Public Safety Police Academy where they will attend Basic Recruit School; a 20-week program including courses in police science, law, physical fitness training, and more before entering Field Training and being assigned to their patrol commands.
The many appointments and promotions included members entering roles of great responsibility within the Department, including Internal Affairs supervisors, Patrol Supervisors, and Detectives. Detective Lieutenant Charles Walker was promoted to Lieutenant Denise Cronin; Detective Sergeant Thomas Burke was promoted to Sergeant Robert Metz; Sergeant Reggie Irizarry was promoted to Sergeant Thomas Sabol; Sergeant Ashley Callery was promoted to Detective Michael DeRosa; Detective Specialist Armena Marku was promoted to Detective Specialist Matthew Nassar; and Detective Specialist Dylan Deierlein was appointed.

The 24 newly hired Probationary Police Officers include Deja Arline, Angel Medina-Asensi, Salvador Barragan, David Brady, Anthony Brunetto, Giancarlo Colaiacovo, Christopher Cunha, Daniel Devlin, Jeffrey Diaz, Tanevia Diaz Jonathan Fanelli Anthony Febbo Michael Ferrara Joseph Ganemian Gregory Hernandez John Listwan Matthew Melendez Brian Cabrera-Mezquita Lucas Moreira Andrew Orellana Zuravy Reynoso Ricky Arroyo-Gonzalez Evan Arikian Giancarlos Castrillon Albert Flores.
These promotions and appointments reinforce Yonkers' commitment to public safety. Mayor Mike Spano said "We are proud of our police officers who have worked hard for these promotions and appointments. We are also proud of our new recruits who have chosen a career in public service."
