YONKERS, NY ~ Yonkers, NY - In a move towards a cleaner and more sustainable city, Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano and the Department of Public Works (DPW) have announced the acquisition of a new remote-controlled electric slope mower. The Raymo Remote Electric Slope Mower will be used to maintain steep terrain on large city properties, such as the Sprain Reservoir Dam.

The mower is equipped with all-terrain wheels and is operated remotely, reducing the risk of injury for DPW employees who no longer have to navigate hills with traditional maintenance equipment. Additionally, the use of battery technology eliminates fuel costs and reduces workers' exposure to harmful fumes from gas-powered equipment.

Mayor Spano expressed his support for the initiative, stating that it not only protects employees but also allows for effective and efficient completion of tasks. He also highlighted the city's commitment to reducing its carbon footprint and remaining environmentally conscious when it comes to maintaining larger properties like the reservoir.

DPW Commissioner Thomas G. Meier echoed this sentiment, emphasizing that the use of clean energy technology in this powerful remote-operated slope mower will result in significant cost savings for labor and fuel. It also aligns with Mayor Spano's ambitious climate action goals for the city.

William Serratore, Director of the Mayor's Office of Sustainability, praised Yonkers' leadership in innovation under Mayor Spano's guidance. He noted that this new vehicle is not only fast and efficient but also has a dramatic impact on lowering the city's carbon footprint.

The acquisition of this electric slope mower showcases Yonkers' commitment to being at the forefront of sustainable practices. With its advanced technology and eco-friendly features, it is a step towards creating a greener future for Yonkers.
