Owner Steve Sholar, who now volunteers at the shelter, turns a routine oil change into help for local pets

AUBURN, N.Y. - Nyenta -- Sholar Automotive is turning oil changes into help for homeless pets. For every oil change done at the shop in Auburn this November, owner Steve Sholar will give $5 to the Auburn SPCA.

The idea grew out of the time Steve now spends at the shelter. He started volunteering there, and he's seen up close what it takes to care for the dogs and cats waiting for a home.

"Once I started helping out at the SPCA, I couldn't stop thinking about those animals," said Steve Sholar, owner of Sholar Automotive. "They need food, care, and a lot of love. Every car needs an oil change. So now, when you take care of your car, you help take care of a pet, too."

How It Works

Drivers don't need a coupon or a code. Just bring your car in for an oil change at Sholar Automotive any weekday in November. The shop will count every oil change it does all month. At the end of the month, Sholar Automotive will send the full gift to the Auburn SPCA.

"Auburn New York has always looked out for us," Sholar said. "This is one small way we can give back, and our customers get to be part of it."

Good Timing for Car Care

November is a smart time for an oil change. Cold weather is on the way, and clean oil helps your engine run well when it gets cold out. Old, dirty oil can wear out engine parts over time. While the car is in the shop, the team can look over the rest of it, too.
